Visionaries Are Made Not Born
Visionaries are business superstars as rare as pop divas—and richer, too. But instead of using natural talent, they learn their craft: one that powerfully impacts segments of our lives, often in ways that we don’t even recognize. And their cunning is accessible, once defined. In Visionarie$ Are Made Not Born, retired Kellogg School of Management Professor Lloyd Shefsky illustrates the concrete steps you can take to achieve, explain and use visions to lead your business to a successful future. Shefsky lays out five elements of visions and explains how to use them in your own ventures. He uses the stories of successful business visionaries, in addition to his expert insight, to demonstrate how those elements have been effectively used in the past. He gives special attention to the added complexities of family businesses, which account for over half the U.S. GDP and where family visions and business visions often collide and conflict. He explains that listening is often a key to vision, and points out that being a visionary doesn’t consist of time travel or magic. After all, vision has no presence in the future; it merely envisions the future in the present.

An Advisor’s Guide to Insurance Underwriting
Once an insurance application is completed, the following step is underwriting. During this process, the insurance company is assessing the amount of risk on the applicant. Since not all insurance solutions follow the same underwriting guidelines, LLIS's "Doctors of Underwriting" will guide advisors through common scenarios for life insurance, disability insurance, long-term care, short term care, annuities, and hybrids. The "doctors" will compare the importance of asking in-depth family and medical history questions to quick quote engines. And most importantly, covering the changes in industry standards.

Grab your lunch and head to one of two concurrent sessions hosted by Sponsors.
_____

This session by TIAA is titled "Myths and Misunderstandings: The role of guaranteed income in retirement income planning".

As hourly-based, fee only financial planners, Garrett Planning members are uniquely positioned to maximize the value of guaranteed income products to address their clients’ most pressing concerns including market risk, longevity, rising medical costs, and underfunded retirements – as well as legacy planning.

The session will include the following:

  • An update on the current regulatory environment for guaranteed income products in retirement plans and what that means for fiduciary advisors and their clients in the planning process.
  • Insights from a recent survey completed by TIAA and an independent third party that looked at advisor perceptions, understanding, and use of guaranteed income products.
  • Planning ideas and strategies for the use of guaranteed income products in the retirement income planning process.

To bring these concepts to life, TIAA will close out the session by reviewing several real life examples to highlight the importance of considering these options when available to a client.

This is the Year I Put My Financial Life in Order
John Schwartz had reached his mid 50s with precious little financial planning, and was starting to get worried. He'd had a 401(k) contributions since his 20s, but had no idea whether it, and his Social Security and pensions, would provide a comfortable retirement. It gets worse--he and his wife, Jeanne, didn't even have a will. They decided to attack the problems at last, and from their efforts comes a new book, "This Is the Year I Put My Financial Life in Order." Using his own experience as a guide, John learned what he needed to know, including how to find a financial adviser, and put it in print in a way that helps readers do the same for themselves. Sheryl Garrett will interview John about the book that Charles Duhigg says "can help anyone walk the path to financial security."

Grab your lunch and head to one of two concurrent sessions hosted by Sponsors.
_____

This session by Oak Insurance Group is titled "Premium Financed Life Insurance: The Basics".

Premium Financed Life Insurance is a program that many financial planners have vaguely heard of, perhaps even taken a look at, but traditionally don't know much about.  In our talk, we will take you through a brief history of premium finance and discuss different products and innovations introduced over the last 30 years, bringing you up to the present.  In addition, we will discuss the mechanics of premium finance, the potential pitfalls and opportunities.  Last, we will present a sample case study and walk you through an illustration and cash flow model, explaining in depth its provisions.  The goal of our one-hour talk, is to provide the attendees with an understanding of the mechanics of a premium finance transaction, how to properly structure a transaction, and where it might be an appropriate fit in a holistic approach to your high net worth client’s financial plan.

Grab your lunch and head to one of two concurrent sessions hosted by Sponsors.
_____

This session by Ryan Insurance Strategy Consultants  is titled "VERALYTIC RESEARCH Protecting Clients from Unscrupulous Life Insurance Industry Practices ".

Program Overview:
Veralytic may be the only realistic way to determine the reliability of new business proposals and inforce illustration of cash value life insurance products.  Widespread use of this tool by fiduciaries could revolutionize the industry.  The presentation will teach advisors how to analyze cash value life insurance using the same Prudent Investor principles widely used to analyze every other asset on clients’ balance sheets.

Learning Objectives:
  • Learn what FINRA Rule 2210 says about the inappropriate ways that cash value life insurance is analyzed.
  • See how the use of reports like Morningstar has led to the creation of Veralytic.
  • Understand the steps necessary to level the playing field, avoid confusing “illustration wars”, and impress clients and centers of influence with a unique, fiduciary-oriented and independent method to measure product competitiveness and illustration integrity.
